The same moment Sirius turned his questioning face to Lily, James reached out and punched him in the face. Lily yelped as she jumped back in shock, clapping her hands over her mouth. James took a step back, panting as he opened and closed his fists several times to try and calm himself down.

Sirius kept his face turned away from him, not moving an inch as blood flowed down his lip.

Lily stared at James in horror.

“Have you slept with her?” James demanded with restrained calm. “And tell me the truth or I swear to Merlin that I'll beat you up so badly your mother won’t even recognize you.”

With his face turned away, Lily could see the muscle tightening in Sirius jaw. James launched out and grabbed the collar of Sirius's shirt, pushing him up against the wall.

“I said, have you slept with her?” he growled, his voice dripping with venom. “Look at me when I'm talking to you!”

Finally, Sirius turned to look at James, keeping a steady stare at him. “Yes”, he said.

“I can't fucking believe you man. I thought you were my mate, did you know she was pregnant? DID YOU?” he yelled, pushing him up against the wall with such force Sirius lost breath for a second.

“James!” Lily gasped, pulling at his arm. “Enough, James, let go of him!”

James coldly ignored her. “I didn't hear you”, he said threateningly, pressing his arm against his throat.

“Yes”, Sirius retorted. “I knew she was pregnant and... I knew it was yours.”

At first it seemed like James was about to snap his head off, but then he loosened his grip on him and took a step back. “You're not my mate. Not anymore”, he said and pointed to Sirius, before turning around and starting to walk away.

Lily reached out her hand and got hold of his arm. “James--”

“Stay away from me Lily”, he said, hurt in his eyes.

“Please, James... Just let me explain”, she said pleadingly through the lump that'd formed in her throat at his words.

“There's nothing to say, Lily!” James snapped, snatching his arm away. “I could never look at you the same again, you or our child. Are you even sure it's mine?”

Lily let her hand drop to her side as tears began trailing down her cheek. James shook his head and stormed out of there, slamming the door shut behind him. Lily jumped at the sound.

“Lily, I swear I didn't plan this”, Sirius said. “I was looking for you on that map, not James.”

“I don't care”, Lily said, turning to face him. “It's your fault any of this happened. I told you I didn't want anything to do with you again, still you insisted on kissing me! Get this into your thick head; I. Don't. Like. you. I will never like you.”

“I don't believe you”, Sirius said, taking a step forward.

Lily immediately took a step back. “Shitty for you. Don't ever try anything on me again, let alone look in my direction or I'll hex you.”

Before Sirius managed to reply, she spun around and stormed out of there with tears streaming down her face. This was a huge mess, one that she'd never be able to clean up.
